Korinthosz.hu – raising the bar in 2018
Szekszárd hosted the 4th edition of the Korinthosz.hu ultramarathon on the 12th August, 2017. A record number of runner toed the line for the 81km race at 7 a.m.
The event has become a well-known ultramarathon in Hungary. The distance equals that of the first leg of the Spartathlon, 81 kilometers between Athens and the Isthmus of Corynth.
On both the men’s and women’s side experienced ultra-runners and Spartathlon finishers showed up for the event.
Following weeks of extremely hot temperatures, the heat eased on race day, helping runners to better performances.
122 runners finished the race before the cut-off time. Tamás Rudolf won the event with an excellent new course record of 6:05:05, while Péter Molnár (6:11:51) and Róbert Rácz (6:41:38) finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.
A rising star of Hungarian ultra running, Erika Mag (6:47:38) won the women’s race, beating last years champion Zsuzsanna Maráz (6:57:30) and local runner Edit Huzsvay (7:13:07).
In 2018, runners can choose three different distances (40km, 80km, 160km). The main event, a 160 km distance will be a Spartathlon qualification race. We hope to welcome a high quality international field of runners.
The 80 km course will be the same as in the previous years. Individual runners as well as relay teams may enter for this distance. The 40km race is a new event in the program.
An awards ceremony and reception dinner will close the event on Saturday evening.
